Our club set up a robotics exhibit at the 4-H Fair, which was held in August at Frying Pan Farm Park. We set up the VEX IQ game for the year, which is Crossover.
We had three robots that visitors could drive. We had many people visit our booth and they had great fun driving our robots. Today, the kids drove VEX Robots and practiced picking up objects like rubber balls. Kids that weren't driving were building VEX robots. Today is the last VEX business meeting before Summer.
We have two new groups building VEX robots for the first time. They are starting off by building the beginner's VEX robot, called the clawbot.
We also have a younger group that is building the VEX IQ clawbot. The youth are working with their parents to learn the basics of building with VEX. Team 7843A has received the "Tournament Champions (VRC/VEXU)" award at the Nothing But Net Fairfax Regional Qualifier - Middle School Division! Our team was thrilled to have a fun day playing the game and it was a surprise to be chosen by one of the top seeded teams to join their alliance.
Our robot was built with a nautilus gear to shoot the piston and was able to score balls in the net, which was very exciting for the team. Today was an overall work session for all the children that attended the meeting. The VEX competition team worked on their robot to get ready for their big tournament on February 7th. The other members in the club started building VEX clawbots, and the elementary school kids built a VEX IQ clawbot. Today we celebrated the coming winter break with sweet snacks and conversation between the children present at the relaxing business meeting. The children also played fun board games and conversed about the game.
Today we worked on the Sea-Pearch as well as the VEX robots. The children also drove the VEX robot that the VEX participants created. The children worked well on their Sea-Pearch robots and followed the specified instructions and procedures. The VEX children worked at their own pace but improved the structure.
Today the Seapearch kids advanced normally with their plans. Something to notice is that there is only one team of VEX this year in comparison to the 3 teams last year. The VEX children almost have the complete structure or model, but still haven't done the programming or haven't pinpointed their gameplan! Today after the normal meeting, each one of us went into our own groups depending if we were working on Seaperch or on VEX. On VEX we only have one group participating in the new VEX championship, Nothing But Net! The Seaperch kids worked on minor issues that they had settled on fixing this meeting. The VEX kids worked on improving some features on their robot. |
